The Discussion
Following the 90-minute performance, there will be an hour-long small-group breakout discussion led by a clinical social worker about the ethical issues and dilemmas that come up in the play. The Playwright: Blake Levinson
A Network Playwright at Chicago Dramatists and Dramatists Guild member, Blake’s full-length, 2-actor play about battered women, By Reason of Sanity was performed in staged readings this spring at Chicago Dramatists’ Saturday Series and at the Next Theater in the Writers’ Bloc New Play Festival. Also this past year, his humorous short plays Wishboner and Speed Bumps were produced at the Bodhi Spiritual Center’s LoveFEST Short Play Festival, his radio play Clothes Make the Maniac was performed in Skeletal Remains Radio Theater’s Festival of Fear, and his full-length play Perverse Mortgage was performed in a staged reading at Chicago Dramatists. When not practicing his passion writing, he is the owner and creative director for DaVinci & Poe Advertising in Chicago. Blake is also a former board member of Cabrini Green Youth & Family Services and founder of the Community-Unity Fest, a 3-day arts & music festival honoring the children and families of Cabrini. 

The Discussion Moderator: Jesse Muñoz MSW, ACSW, LCSW
Mr. Muñoz has thirty five years of social work practice in a variety of settings: educational, medical, and mental health. Included in this is eight years in management of psychiatric/medical facilities, and employee assistance programs. Due to his commitment to mental health, he has accumulated extensive experience providing mental health services to a diverse population from child hood to the elderly.  As a Hispanic, he has developed a therapeutic use of one’s bicultural and bilingual experiences. He is fluent in Spanish and English. Currently, he is the Director of Field Education at Dominican University Graduate School of Social Work. This is a field practicum program that he has developed from the onset of the graduate school from 2003. Throughout that endeavor as a Licensed Clinical Social Work Practioner, he has been providing mental health services at the McGrath Clinic in Orland Park, Illinois since 1992, focusing fifty percent of his clinical practice to the monolingual Spanish speaking community.
