Dominican University, Chicago Sister Cities International and the International Activities Network Shared Interest Group (IAN SIG) are hosting 18 social workers from Hamburg, Germany, and Birmingham, England to study both urban and suburban social services in the Chicago metropolitan areas. Together, both international and local social workers hope to learn and share how to optimize seemingly meager resources to build safe communities that will enhance the quality of life for children, youth and families.

The theme, "Building Safe Communities for Children, Youth and Families," will highlight site visits to local human service organizations and conversations with politicians. European social workers will report the findings from their study of social services in the United States.  In addition, guest speakers will share their perspectives on the role of social services in builing safe communities.
