Admission to the Graduate School of Social Work
You are one step closer to starting on the journey to obtain your Master of Social Work or a certificate to advance your career in compassionate service. Dominican’s Graduate School of Social Work is the only school in Illinois and one of the first in the nation to offer a globally focused, family centered concentration. This concentration allows you to be on the cutting-edge for social work practice in the 21st century.
Another distinctive focus of the program is the international field placement option that students can take advantage of in their last semester, offering opportunities to work first-hand with professionals combating global issues including rural development, post-conflict resolution and human trafficking. At home, with its small class sizes and student-centered atmosphere, Dominican provides an opportunity for students to enjoy their academic experience in a welcoming environment.
GSSW students have an opportunity to pursue the MSW as a full-time or part-time student. In addition, students who hold a bachelor's in social work from a CSWE-accredited program can enter the program as an advanced standing student, enabling them to complete the program in nine months as a full-time student or over a two year period as a part-time student.
We also offer the Social Work in Schools Licensure (Formerly Type 73 Certification) for those students interested in becoming school social workers, a Gerontology Certificate in Aging Care for those who want to meet the demands of the older adult population, and an innovative Certificate in Working with the Military and their Families to prepare social workers to serve the needs of our country's current military personnel and veterans.
To reach a broader student base, we also offer a part-time MSW program at the University Center of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois.
We look forward to the opportunity to work with you to achieve your academic and professional goals while challenging you to change the world.
