Dominican’s MSW field placement is an essential and integral part of the social work learning experience. It is the process by which students begin to integrate academic knowledge, social work values, and the skills needed for foundation and globally focused, family-centered social work practice. The placements are as diverse as the scope of social work, as it deals with all issues on the micro, mezzo, and macro levels.
Dominican MSW students have the option to participate in domestic and international field placements. At Dominican, placement begins for students in their first year of a full-time program. However, part-time programs will dictate when the first-year placement begins. The first-year placement is dedicated to the development and strengthening of engagement, assessment, and intervention processes. These areas are reinforced with the ongoing concurrent curriculum (especially the practice courses). The second-year placement progresses to a higher level of expectation.
